The Monkees and More Of The Monkees
The Monkees and More Of The Monkees (Deluxe Editions) by The Monkees (Rhino/1966) - I could go on about these guys at length, but for the moment I’ll leave it as: The Beatles may be ‘better,’ but The Monkees are more interesting. These are new 2-disc-each editions of the first two albums. One could accuse Rhino of milking the Monkees’ catalog endlessly, but this yank of the udder is mighty fine. You get the original stereo and mono mixes of both albums (and yes, you do want that rockin’ mono version, especially on the first album), plus loads of extra tracks — alternates, obscurities, ads, etc. Plus, serious liner notes with full song by song session details (including the players). Much has been released in Rhino’s earlier packages, but if you never popped for them (like me) — who cares? I only hope they continue this on through the band’s discography (yank yank yank).
